Stellantis’ Detroit Assembly Complex Drives Economic Growth for City of Detroit and East Side Neighborhoods

July 10, 2025 , Auburn Hills, Mich. -  Stellantis’ Detroit Assembly Complex has been a major economic engine for the city of Detroit, according to the 2025 Annual City Revenue Report recently submitted to city council in accordance with the project’s development agreement. Since operations began in 2020, the project has generated nearly $64 million in revenue for the city, exceeding the $57.4 million stipulated in the development agreement.

The project also has benefitted the city and the surrounding community in other ways, including:
  • Putting countless Detroit-based contractors to work in the construction of the Mack plant, which was completed in record time
  • Hiring thousands of Detroit residents, in partnership with the city’s Detroit at Work program, to work at the plant, as well as at other Stellantis facilities in southeast Michigan
  • Completing the Community Benefits program and establishing the Advanced Manufacturing Academy at Southeastern High School to benefit students across the city in collaboration with Detroit Public Schools Community District, something Stellantis is particularly proud of
  • Working with the state of Michigan, the city and Invest Detroit to allocate more than $5 million for housing repairs for area neighbors
In 2019, Stellantis (then FCA) announced that it would invest $2.5 billion to convert the former Mack Avenue Engine Complex into a new assembly plant and to retool the Jefferson North Assembly Plant to support production of the next-generation Jeep® Grand Cherokee, as well as an all-new, three-row, full-size Jeep SUV and plug-in hybrid models. When the new facility opened in late 2020, it was the first new assembly plant in Detroit in 30 years.
