  • Announcement made during the Michigan Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s Fiesta Hispana Annual Gala
December 4, 2011 , Auburn Hills, Mich. -  The Chrysler Foundation has announced that it will provide a $50,000 grant to the Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF), the nation’s largest provider of college financial aid for Latino students. The grant, which will support Hispanic students that pursue a course of study that focuses on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) fields, also continues a longstanding relationship between The Chrysler Foundation and the HSF which began in 1986. Since that time, HSF has received 25 grants from the Foundation totaling more than $750,000.

The latest grant was announced by Fred Diaz, President and Chief Executive Officer - Chrysler de Mexico and Ram Truck Brand, Chrysler Group LLC during his keynote presentation at the Michigan Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s annual Fiesta Hispana Gala in Dearborn, Mich. Friday evening.

“The future of our country, indeed, the future of Chrysler Group, more and more demands that we take an active role in supporting the development of highly motivated, highly trained technical leaders with diverse backgrounds,” Diaz said.“Chrysler is committed to ensuring that a diverse group of leaders drive the next era of innovation which fuels the country’s economic growth.”

Historically, Chrysler Group  has been recognized as a leader in promoting diversity throughout its enterprise. Its numerous achievements include being named to Hispanic Business magazine's annual Diversity Elite 60 for implementing strategies to reach more Hispanic customers and pursue more business with minority- and Hispanic-owned suppliers - a distinction the company has earned every year since 2009.

In March 2011, the editors of DiversityInc magazine named Chrysler Group to the magazine's 2011 list of "Top 50 Companies for Diversity." This coveted annual benchmark is comprised of companies the magazine's editors believe are diversity-management leaders. This was the fifth year since the list was established in 2001 that Chrysler has been included.

More recently, Chrysler Group was named among nation's "Top Supporters" of Engineering Programs of Historically Black Colleges and Universities, recognizing the Company's efforts in developing, recruiting and hiring talented students pursuing technical careers at the nation's minority-serving institutions.
